STAYOKAY x MUD JEANS
What do a hostel chain and a circular denim brand have in common? Sustainability.
We come bearing great news! As of last Friday, the employees at Stayokay will be wearing MUD Jeans to work! On Friday, our Marketing Manager (Danique) and intern (Maxime) dropped off the jeans at the StayOkay Hostel located in the centre of Utrecht.
MUD JEANS AT STAYOKAY
The employees of StayOkay always wear casual jeans. When the plans were made for the new hostel location, the employees asked the management for the possibility to wear MUD Jeans to work. The new StayOkay location promotes sustainability and the use of local goods and services. The management agreed to the idea of wearing MUD Jeans as we are a fair brand promoting the circular economy.
MUD Jeans and REMO have joined forces to be sure StayOkay gets the most sustainable jeans. As MUD Jeans uses recycled cotton, their products have a much better environmental footprint compared to standard jeans. The circular system for producing MUD Jeans is tracked by REMO by their REMOkey. The environmental benefits of the MUD Jeans are quantified in an objective way. It shows that the production of a single MUDjeans on average saves 0,4 kg CO2, 1,6 kWh and 870 l water! More info on REMO and the REMOkey can be found at www.remokey.com
MEETING THE MARKETING MANAGER
The Marketing Manager, Marieke van Tijn, welcomed us at the new StayOkay hostel. We had a brief chat with her about the new StayOkay location and how it is different from other locations. Read the short interview below!
What made StayOkay decide to expand to the centre of Utrecht?
We have always wanted to locate ourselves into the centre of Utrecht. At the moment, Utrecht does not offer many low-budget accommodations. Also, there seems to be an increase in tourism in Utrecht, and those tourists would need a place to stay right?
What makes this new location unique?
StayOkay located on the Neuden 5, in Utrecht, is our Flagship location. The interior design, atmosphere, and attention for sustainability makes it unique. In addition to the usual hostel-like dorm rooms, StayOkay offers other kinds of arrangements. It is possible to book rooms for 2, 4, 6, or 8 people, and all rooms have their own bathroom (Hurray – no more walking in your towel across the hallway!) So apart from backpackers, it is now also a great place to stay for families.
Besides the fact that it is a place where national and international guests can meet, it is a great added value to the local community.
How is the location adding value to the local community?
In the hostel, we try to use as many local products as possible. This way we boost the local economy. We also like to promote local businesses; their products and services, as Utrecht has so much to offer!
StayOkay can also be visited by individuals who are not necessarily guests. They are more than welcome to stop by for a cup of coffee and use the Wi-Fi, use our common spaces for meetings, brainstorm sessions with colleagues, or use the relaxing atmosphere to catch your breath. We are even working on creating a program where we can offer local bands a stage to perform!
